Collingwood livewire Jamie Elliott is facing several weeks on the sidelines after being diagnosed with a vascular issue.
Elliott, 31, missed Sunday’s win against West Coast with what was thought to be a back concern. But further assessment has revealed what the Magpies have described as a treatable vascular issue.
The goalkicker has been booked in to see vascular specialists for further investigations and treatment.
“Disappointing news for Jamie who will spend two to three weeks on a modified training program as he recovers from a vascular issue,” Pies fitness boss Jarrod Wade said.
“In positive news it is not a significant issue, and it is treatable. While Jamie recovers and receives treatment, he will be able to train and will continue to keep his fitness.”
It’s understood the issue relates to a lack of blood supply to a bone. That can sometimes happen to a navicular bone, known as avascular necrosis, however that would be a significant injury.
Elliott’s setback adds to a mounting injury toll at the reigning premiers.
Jeremy Howe will miss the best part of a month with a groin strain while Jack Bytel and Beau McCreery will both miss Saturday’s match against Adelaide as they progress through the concussion protocols.
Youngster Harvey Harrison is in doubt to face the Crows with an ankle injury and Aiden Begg will meet with a surgeon after suffering a knee injury in the VFL.
Superstar Jordan De Goey completed a 10.5km running session on the weekend as he pushes to return from a groin injury.
Brownlow Medallist Tom Mitchell also completed a high-end running session at the weekend and is closing in on a return.
Spearhead Brody Mihocek is hoping to return from a hamstring injury in next week’s clash against Fremantle in Perth.
