Coates Talent League: The top 50 ranked players from round 2

The son of a former Collingwood and Carlton player has scored a whopping 198 SuperCoach points in round 2 of the Coates Talent League, plus his teammate also starred.

The younger brothers of two AFL guns have torn it up in the Coates Talent League in round 2, with Taj Hotton and Levi Ashcroft leading the way for Sandringham Dragons.

Hotton, the brother of St Kilda forward Olli Hotton, scored 198 ranking points after 32 disposals (15 contested), 10 marks, five tackles, four clearances, 13 score involvements and four goals.

The forward’s performance brought in the most ranking points of a game this round, scoring 30 more than his teammate Ashcroft.

The brother of Brisbane young gun and former number one draft pick Will Ashcroft, Levi recorded 30 disposals, five marks, five clearances, 10 score involvements and a goal on his way to 168 points.

Sandringham ran rampant against Oakleigh, winning by 52 points on Saturday.

Ashcroft is also available to Brisbane as a father-son selection if he nominates for the Lions, and is expected to be taken at the top-end of the draft with some experts suggesting he is in the conversation for the first-overall selection.

While Ashcroft is available as a father-son, Hotton is not despite his father Trent Hotton playing 78 games between Carlton and Collingwood.

AFL Academy prospect Christian Moraes is another star midfielder who is in the conversation for the top pick, and the Eastern Ranges midfielder put together a second consecutive strong performance to start the season.

Moraes collected 25 disposals, took nine marks, laid six tackles and kicked four goals on his way to 158 ranking points.

He had 25 touches and two goals in round 1.

Gippsland Power duo Tom Hanily and Xavier Lindsay both starred as well in round 2, with Hanily scoring 154 points from his 32 touches, nine marks, one goal and 11 score involvements.

Lindsay had 30 touches, five marks, six clearances and a goal for 153 points.

Geelong also had some dominant performances across the weekend, with four of the round’s top 11 ranking point scores from Falcons players.

Ruck Joe Pike (18 disposals, six clearances, four marks and four tackles for 147 points), Will McLachlan (13 disposals and five goals for 140 points), Xavier Ivisic (29 disposals and seven score involvements for 140 points) and Liam Kershaw (23 disposals and nine marks for 140 points) all dominated in the Falcons’ 56-point win over GWV Rebels.
