Chris Tarrant and Sam Jacobs form great impasse

TWO Mexican stand-offs are set to cause major issues with the expected delays involving Chris Tarrant and Sam Jacobs.

TWO Mexican stand-offs are set to cause major issues following a subdued opening day of trade week.

Clubs are bracing themselves for minimal movement with the expected delays involving the futures of Chris Tarrant and Sam Jacobs set to dominate the week.

Fremantle is threatening to play hardball on Tarrant after asking the Pies to give up a premiership player in return for the 30-year-old defender.

The Pies are understood to have laughed off requests for young guns Sharrod Wellingham, Chris Dawes and Tyson Goldsack.

Out-of-favour forward John Anthony is a more likely candidate to be involved.

Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse confirmed yesterday the club's interest in getting Tarrant back to the club where he started his career.

"Chris is out there, and he's going to come home," Malthouse said. "Chris would like to play for Collingwood and we would like to have him."

Carlton has asked for Adelaide's first round selection, No.14, in exchange for Jacobs but that isn't going to happen.

A deal involving a swap of first-round selections - the Blues have No.18 - may eventuate but both parties were left frustrated yesterday.

Adelaide is also still leading the way for another disgruntled Blue Andrew Walker but there has been minimal movement on that front.

Out-of-favour Magpie Leon Davis could be on the move.

"He's not so much on the market, as he's contracted for another year," Davis' manager Liam Pickering said.

"If Collingwood get some interest from one of the Western Australian clubs - Fremantle or West Coast - then he'd certainly consider it, as that's where his family is."

There weren't too many surprises to come out of yesterday's meeting of clubs at Etihad Stadium with Essendon football manager Paul Hamilton predicting a slow week.

"I don't think there's going to be a lot of action across all of the AFL," he said.

"Having been to a few trade (day ones), it was quietest day I've been involved with, there wasn't a lot happening."
