Geelong master coach Chris Scott is poised to lead the Cats into a 15th season and beyond as he works through a contract extension.

A two-time flag winner, Scott holds a contract until the end of 2024 but Geelong confirmed Scott and his new management, Liam Pickering’s Bravo Management, were already in talks on a new deal.

Scott quietly signed a two-year deal last year and hates the spotlight of contract extensions.

The discussions pre-date Gold Coast’s decision this week to sack Stuart Dew.

Only Reg Hickey rivals Scott for the mantle of Geelong’s greatest ever coach, with Scott due to draw level with Hickey on 304 games coached at the club in round 19.

Scott has a winning record that is unmatched among the long-standing coaches in VFL/AFL history, with a winning percentage of 69.37 to go with his two flags.

Scott’s name has often come up as a target whenever there has been an opening in the AFL coaching job market but he has never seriously entertained leaving his post.

The Cats have long admired his ability to adapt since being appointed at Geelong before the 2011 season, and the veteran coach remains driven to hunt down a third flag.

After a comfortable win over North Melbourne on Sunday he declared Geelong is “the danger” to rival premiership hopes this season and the Cats won’t just be making up numbers if they are to make the top eight.

Scott faces off against his brother Brad and Essendon on Saturday night at GMHBA Stadium.
