Geelong captain Joel Selwood has been fined a paltry $3000 for two separate incidents in Friday night’s nailbiting win over the Western Bulldogs.

Selwood came under scrutiny from the Match Review Officer for two ugly incidents.

He played a critical role in the side’s thrilling win over the Dogs at GMHBA Stadium, finishing with 29 touches and 10 clearances, but two pieces of vision circulating on social media have ignited calls for action against the 33-year-old.

First, Selwood could be seen clumsily flinging his fist at the head of Dogs opponent Bailey Dale, while later in the match appeared to scrape against the head and eye region of Taylor Duryea before stumbling over his left leg.

The AFL confirmed the Match Review Officer charged Selwood with “misconduct” for the Dale incident and he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early guilty plea.

For the Duryea incident, the Geelong skipper was ruled to be “engaging in rough conduct” and can accept a $2000 fine.

All in all, Selwood can escape with a small fine of $3000 for his behaviour that left viewers less than impressed.

A Gary Rohan goal after the siren handed Geelong a famous five-point victory over fellow premiership contender the Western Bulldogs at Kardinia Park on Friday night in what was a bruising affair.

With 32 seconds remaining, Isaac Smith spotted up Rohan by himself near the boundary line 45m out with the Cats trailing by a point.

The game came at a big cost for both clubs, however, with Geelong’s Mitch Duncan subbed out of the game in the opening 15 minutes due to a right knee injury, and star Bulldogs forward Aaron Naughton subbed out at half-time due to a rib injury.

Geelong faces another top-four contender in Round 15, taking on the Brisbane Lions at The Gabba.
