Carlton wants Geelong youngster Darcy Lang in exchange for defender Zach Tuohy

CARLTON has identified a Geelong youngster it would be willing to accept in exchange for dashing Irish defender Zach Tuohy.

CARLTON wants to secure contracted Geelong forward Darcy Lang in exchange for dashing Blues defender Zach Tuohy.

The Blues are resigned to losing Irishman Tuohy, 26, who nominated Geelong as his club of choice, but remain hopeful of being able to lure Lang out of Kardinia Park.

The 20-year-old goalsneak has signalled his intention to stay with the Cats despite the promise of greater opportunity at Carlton.

His manager Scott Lucas was contacted for comment.

Lang was dropped four times this season and overlooked for Geelong’s ill-fated finals campaign despite strong VFL form.

The crafty forward could again face stiff competition for senior games next year with Lincoln McCarthy, Nakia Cockatoo and Josh Caddy playing similar forward/midfield roles.

The possible arrival of Richmond star Brett Deledio, 29, also keen on a move to Geelong, could see Lang fall further down the pecking order.

The Blues are interested in luckless Cats utility Billie Smedts, 24, but he alone won’t be enough to get the Tuohy trade over the line.

Geelong is limited at the trade table by a tight salary cap and no first-round draft picks.

Lang was rewarded with a contract extension in 2015 after playing 20 games in just his second year at the club.

“I’m over the moon,” Lang told the club’s website last year.

“It’s something that you want to be, a one-club player, so I’m very happy to have signed on for two more years.”

Lang was recruited with pick No.16 in the 2013 national draft.
