Carlton cult figure Eddie Betts will play in 2021 after signing a new one-year deal with the Blues.
Betts, who turns 34 later this month, rejoined Carlton, where he started his career in 2005, after six huge seasons with the Adelaide Crows.
He kicked 13 goals in his 15 games in the COVID-19 impacted 2020 season and said Carlton felt like “home”.
“I’ve loved every minute of being back home at the cub this year, but it hasn’t felt the same without all our members and supporters, I can’t wait to play in front of them and play for them again next season,” Betts said.
“My number one priority next year will be playing good football and doing everything I possibly can to help this club win games and earn the success we have been working towards.”
Betts has kicked 613 goals in his 331 games, which has him on the cusp of the top 30 greatest goalkickers in AFL history.
The three-time All-Australian and four-time winner of the AFL’s goal of the year will assist Carlton in the delivery of a community program to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players, staff, and Indigenous Australians.

Carlton list manager Nick Austin said keeping Betts was crucial to Carlton’s ongoing improvement.
“Eddie has been a terrific player for our club and we look forward to him continuing next season,“ Austin said.
“As a lively small forward, we all know what he brings to our side and what he is capable of inside 50, which is only going to benefit our football club in 2021.
“It cannot be understated how valuable Eddie’s leadership is for our forward group, not just on game day but the work he is doing and the experience he is sharing in every review, in every meeting.”
