Cameron Rayner says he doesn’t know what Brisbane will do with No.1 pick

CAMERON Rayner is favourite to go No.1 in the national draft but says he came out of a recent meeting with Brisbane more confused about where he’ll be taken.

Draft preview

TOP draft prospect Cameron Rayner remains unsure if Brisbane will make him the No.1 pick.

The onballer has been likened to Richmond superstar Dustin Martin and is the hot tip to be the first player claimed at Friday’s national draft in Sydney.

Speculation surfaced on Thursday the Lions had already told Rayner they would make him this year’s top pick but he maintains he is still in the dark.

“I had a meeting with them the other day ... I went in there expecting to figure it out but I probably came out more confused,” Rayner said.

“I’ll just know when everyone else knows.

“I’m just looking forward to seeing where I will end up and start playing footy.

“I said right from the start of the year that if I got a chance to play AFL footy I’d play anywhere. Brisbane would be an awesome place to live and the club is going forward.

“I’d love to a part of that and if that happens I’d be really excited.”

Fellow Victorian onballers Luke Davies-Uniacke, Paddy Dow and Andrew Brayshaw are also a chance to be this year’s top pick.

Davies-Uniacke is widely predicted to be claimed by Fremantle with the second overall pick, while Dow is the popular choice to be taken by Carlton at No.3.

But the Bendigo Pioneers midfielder is quietly hoping North Melbourne will be able to swoop with the fourth overall pick.

“My pop, Peter Dow, played around 20 games for North in the early sixties but he got injured and moved back home,” Dow said.

“I’ve supported them my whole life so it would be a bit of a dream to go there.

“It would be pretty special.” The draft gets underway at 7pm AEDT on Friday at the Sydney Showgrounds.
