FRIDAY night’s EJ Whitten Legends Game is a chance to raise money for a good cause but also enables players to relive some of the great moments of their playing careers.

North Melbourne and Geelong premiership player Cameron Mooney will line-up for the All-Stars against Victoria and while he can’t wait to play alongside some of the game’s greats, he’ll be on the lookout for a friend and former opponent.

Nicknamed the ‘big angry Cat’ during his playing days with Geelong, Mooney is hoping to cross paths with former Bulldog and now close friend Brad Johnson at Etihad Stadium with one goal in mind: To reproduce one of the great hits of his career.

And the sledging has already started.

“Brad Johnson is a fun one. We’ve become really close mates,” Mooney said.

“I did get to run through him in 2004 I think it was, or 2005, but I ran through him and busted up his shoulder. It was fantastic.

“I keep reminding him of it, so if I get close to him I’ll try and run through him again.”

But when asked whether he’s worried Johnson might turn the tables on him, Mooney said: “He wouldn’t know how to hurt somebody.”

But Johnson thinks otherwise, declaring he will venture into the backline with the sole purpose of squaring things up with Mooney.

“I’ve got to settle a score with Cam Mooney ... I’m going to actually venture down the other end of the ground because he got me once at Etihad and he got me really, really hard. He just destroyed my shoulder,” he said.

“This is the only opportunity I’ve had to maybe get one back on the big ‘Moondog’ but I’ll need some help, I might get Jonathan Brown and Dermie (Dermott Brereton) and big ‘Monkey’ (Damian Monkhorst) to come down and give me some support.”

Mooney will line-up alongside the likes of goalkicking stars Wayne Carey and Tony Modra, while smooth moving former Crows Andrew McLeod will be feeding the forward line alongside triple Brisbane premiership player Jason Akermanis and Eagles star Andrew Embley.

But the Kangaroos and Cats premiership player says he can’t wait to play alongside a Port Adelaide champion.

“Chad Cornes and I have become pretty good mates over the years,” Mooney told the Herald Sun.

“We were in London when we first met in 2006, we couldn’t stand each other as players, but we got to meet over there and struck up a friendship and since then we’ve been great mates.

“I’m looking forward to playing with him.”

For Victoria, Sydney Swans premiership captain Barry Hall will spearhead the forward line alongside five-time Hawthorn premiership player Dermott Brereton and triple premiership Lion Jonathan Brown.

And Hall can’t wait.

“Dermie is a big one,” he said of who he’s looking forward to playing with. “Obviously Jonathan Brown is someone everyone wants to play with. I think he’ll also kick on after the game, which I’m looking forward to, too.”

But the former Saint, Swan and Bulldogs enforcer might venture down into defence to cross paths with Mooney.

“I’ve done a lot of work with Moons and I want to belt him,” Hall joked.

“Me and Moons, it’s one of those things like your best mates so when you play against each other you go in harder.

“But really, I’m probably more excited and going to enjoy it more than getting angry about things.”

The EJ Whitten Legends’ Match will be broadcast on FOX FOOTY, 7.30pm Friday 2nd September.
