Rowell also made history by becoming the first player to start a season with four-straight three vote games and he never looked back.

Some controversial votes ensued in the first half of the season for Rowell as he built a big lead over the rest of the pack.

Hot favourite Daicos closed the gap on his rival in the latter stages of the season, but he couldn’t chase him down.

With two rounds remaining the lead was unassailable and that was all she wrote with Rowell winning his first ever Brownlow Medal. He said he was “pretty speechless” after winning the award.

Rowell joins Gary Ablett Jnr as the second Gold Coast Suns player to win the Brownlow.
