The blockbuster three-team trade appeared all but confirmed on Monday night before the Power pulled the offer off the table.

Less than 24 hours later and the deal has been agreed to thanks to a minor tweak by the Suns to get it over the line.

AFL Media’s Cal Twomey confirmed the trade had been ticked off at league headquarters and will see five players traded in a major move.

Port Adelaide receive: Jack Lukosius, Joe Richards, Rory Atkins, Picks 13, 29, 36 and 50

Collingwood receive: Dan Houston, Pick 58

Gold Coast receive: John Noble, Pick 39, future first-round pick (tied to Port Adelaide), future first-round pick (tied to Collingwood)

Houston joins Collingwood after signing a six-year contract.

“We are so pleased to see Dan arrive at Collingwood,” head of football strategy Justin Leppitsch said in a statement.

“While his talent is clear, we also know we are bringing in a great leader and person.

“With eight years at AFL level, Dan comes in as a ready-made player who can impact our program.

“As part of this deal, we farewell to two quality individuals in John and Joe and we thank them for their contributions to our Club.

“John came to us as a mid-season pick, and his toughness and resilience enabled him to play over 100 games at our Club. John will always be a Collingwood person.

“Whilst Joe, we saw great growth in him during his time at our Club and know he will continue to develop at AFL level. We respect his intention to head to Port for further opportunity and wish him well.”

Speaking on the potential of landing Houston, AFL great Nick Dal Santo heaped praise on Collingwood for their ability to acquire him for 2025 and beyond.

“This (deal) all revolves around Houston; that’s clearly the big name within this, but it also has a flow-on effect - this one, I love,” Dal Santo said on the Fox Footy Podcast.

“The modern game, a lot of it is based around a sound team defence … the top four had a stable defence.

“What’s the only thing that can trump defence? Ball use, and elite use by foot - and Dan Houston fits that bill.

“They go out of their way at Port in previous years to give him the ball; whether he’s in a good position, or a bad position. They say: ‘we trust you to distribute the footy as good as anyone.’”

The AFL’s 2024 Trade Deadline will come to a close on October 16 at 7:30pm (AEDT).
