COLLINGWOOD coach Wayne Siekman is optimistic but unsure he will remain at the helm of the AFLW Magpies next season and he wants Mo Hope there alongside him.

Siekman had his job questioned by former player Kate Sheahan after the Magpies started the season 0-3, but they have since recorded four victories, with Collingwood ending Adelaide’s grand final hopes with a 21-point win at Olympic Park on Sunday.

“Certainly the last four weeks, since we were under the microscope, personally in the media, the response from the club, the support they’ve shown me, but more importantly the support the playing group has shown … to win against quality opposition … hopefully that holds (me) in good stead going forward,” Siekman, who is uncontracted come May, said.

Hope started the season slowly and was dropped for one match, but was one of the Magpies best on Sunday. When pushed during an interview on Fox Sports, she said she hoped to be at Holden Centre next year.

It’s understood the list changes have already started, with first year football manager Meg Hutchins delisted.

While Siekman had expectations Hope would remain at the club, he was concerned about the AFL’s expected list rules for next season, with foundation sides set to lose up to four players, potentially their stars, to 2019 entrants Geelong and North Melbourne.

“Last year we were really disappointed that our two best players left our football club, this year I get really scared and really worried that our top three, our top four players … could leave this club,” Siekman said.

“It’s not fair on the existing clubs … It’s a scary thing for the existing clubs in a competition that’s so even you can (have) your heart broken straight down the middle. It’s a scary proposition.

“You’d actually love to be a Geelong or North Melbourne … you’re not going after bottom end talent, you’re going after the best players.

“They could have between six and eight absolute guns … they could be really scary in their first year.”

Jasmine Garner was impressive against the Crows, she started the season as a forward, was moved back in an attempt to gain some form and today had most of her impact across the forward flank with 16 disposals and seven tackles.

The Crows started strongly and lead by 11 points at halftime, but with star defender Chelsea Randall forced out of the game with a head knock for the entire second half after being best on early, and Erin Phillips’ quad injury hampering the reigning AFLW MVP, the Magpies pounced.

Adelaide coach Bec Goddard praised Phillips for her courage playing for the past three weeks with the injury. She insisted it wasn’t a tear, just a quad strain and she hoped she would return to the club for AFLW03.
