You only need to see Monday’s bulletin to see the power of the Cornes name, as father and son go up against each other.

If you were in any doubt about the power of the Cornes name in Adelaide then you only need to tune into Monday night’s TV news bulletins.

It’s there you’ll find father and son going head-to-head giving their views on the world of AFL.

Former Crows coach Graham Cornes has a segment with Channel 7 where he dissects the fortunes of Adelaide and Port Adelaide from the previous round.

And now his son Kane, who has taken over Eddie McGuire’s mantle as the Mr Everywhere in AFL media, is doing the same on Channel 9.

Kane gives his take on the world in the City of Churches as part of a promotion for Footy Classified which is on later in the evening.

AFLW CHIEF’S COMMENTARY GIG AMID SEASON FARCE

Optics is the buzz word among AFL heavyweights.

At any opportunity they will wheel it out but it’s fair to say they’re not having much luck on this front in the AFLW world at the moment.

The angst is growing by the day among the constituents who have no idea about when the new season — proposed for August — is going to start or what arrangements are in place.

Keeping good optics in this space got a lot harder courtesy of a media release from Prime Video spruiking the upcoming Australian Swimming Championships.

It was pumping up the live broadcast of the event and its star-studded commentary team led by three-time Olympic gold medallist Grant Hackett, three-time world champion Giaan Rooney, Paralympic gold medallist Annabelle Williams and triple Olympic medallist Nicole Livingstone.

Hang on. Back the truck up there. Beep. Beep. Beep.

Is that Nicole Livingstone the same Nicole Livingstone who runs the AFLW?

The photo at the top of the press release confirms it is the popular administrator and usually having a side gig is not an issue.

However, a check of the date of the championships — May 18 to 22 in Adelaide — has the optics metre starting to flash red.

Having the boss of the competition which is currently in disarray taking a few days off to indulge in her other sporting passion is what they would call in the business — a tough sell.

LINGY SET FOR EARLY MORNING STARTS

ANOTHER former AFL great is becoming a breakfast radio show host.

Following in the footsteps of Brendan Fevola and Jonathan Brown, Geelong premiership captain Cameron Ling has landed himself a full-time early morning gig.

Ling has joined his local hometown station, K-Rock, as part of the Tom, Lingy and Loggy breakfast show.

The Cats three-time premiership hero had been a regular on the program over the past couple of years before doing a trial in the host seat earlier this year.

Given during his playing days Ling was referred to as the Mayor of Geelong, it’s no surprise he has been a hit on the airwaves.

The new gig adds to Ling’s increasing media profile which includes commentary with Channel Seven and the ABC. He also appears on a Channel 7 podcast with fellow commentator Alister Nicholson and Geelong Football Club’s popular podcast ‘To The Final Bell’.

BRUCE’S BIG BOOL COLLECTION

SHOUT out to 3AW commentator Bruce Eva who was one of many AFL types enjoying themselves at last week’s Warrnambool carnival.

Eva had more reason than most given he owned a “small” share in the Cup winner Witchachar Star.

It has been a genius investment by Eva as the tried horse cost the owners just $10,000 with Cranbourne trainer Chris Hyland turning it from a lowly rater to a listed winner in seven starts.

Witchachar Star banked more than $250,000 in prize money last week alone with the ex-South Australian gelding winning at Sandown the Saturday before the Warrnambool carnival which qualified it for a Cup start on Thursday . . . which it won easily at $10.
