AFLW has lost its most promising star for 2019 after Geelong midfielder Nina Morrison ruptured her ACL.
The No. 1 draft pick was best on ground in the Cats’ exciting one-point win over Collingwood on Saturday night, collecting 22 touches in a debut coach Paul Hood labelled “pretty special”.

The rising star nominee injured her knee at training on Thursday night.
The 18-year-old will make a decision about surgery options in the coming days.
“It’s obviously an extremely disappointing situation for Nina and the club. Nina is a resilient young woman and will tackle her recovery from this injury as she does everything, with a determination and the precision to ensure she is back at 100% for next season,” Geelong coach Paul Hood said.
“The club will offer its support and care to Nina as she begins her rehabilitation.”
Morrison set records at the AFLW draft combine in the 2km time trial (7min 14sec) and the yo-yo test (18.1 — yo-yo is the successor to the beep test).
Captain of Geelong Grammar last year, Morrison received an ATAR of 99.75.
She has been described as a great leader who found her way to football after her dad Dougal insisted she attend an AFLW talent search.
It’s the second ACL injury of the AFLW season after Melbourne’s Shae Sloane was injured in the Demons loss to Fremantle on Sunday.
Adelaide ruck Rhiannon Metcalfe tore her ACL on the eve of the season during a trial match.
