Gold Coast Suns 12.10 (82) defeat Adelaide Crows 4.5 (29)

The Adelaide Crows have endured a torrid time of late and it only went from bad to worse on Sunday against the Gold Coast Suns.

The Gold Coast Suns are the real deal.
The Gold Coast Suns are the real deal.

The record books were given a solid workout on Sunday afternoon as the Gold Coast Suns made a complete mockery out of the Adelaide Crows.

After being dismantled against arch rivals Port Adelaide last weekend, the Crows were out to make amends for their lacklustre performance.

From the opening bounce it was clear they didn’t have the intent of their much younger opponents in the Suns.

Suns skipper Jarrod Witts leapt high above Reilly O’Brien, ripped the ball out of the air and slammed it towards goal in what was the first of countless surges toward goal.

The Suns simply never took their foot off the gas as they ran away to record the absurd 11.9 (75) to 4.5 (29) victory and move to 2-1 on the season.

For Adelaide the nightmares continue to add up both on and off the field as they now find themselves dead last on the ladder.

The numbers out of the contest paint an ugly picture for the Crows who were held scoreless in the opening quarter, the first time the Suns have ever held an opponent scoreless for a quarter. They also registered the lowest third-quarter score in the club’s history after sitting at 1.4 (10).

The Suns also for the first time in the club’s history won seven consecutive quarters. Losing the fourth quarter three goals to two. It also marks the first time in their history they’ve recorded a win against the Crows.

They simpled dominated the Crows in every single facet of the game with young star Matt Rowell again leaving jaws on the floor with his latest stunning display.

In the second quarter he left fans and commentators in awe after bursting out of the centre square before unloading a shot on goal from outside 50 on his opposite foot that bounced through.

Rowell ended his third game in the AFL with 20 disposals, 10 tackles and two goals to his name and drew heavy praise from the Fox Footy panel.

“He’s just repeated what he did last week. He is a star and we’re going to talk about him a lot, as we should,” Cameron Mooney said.

“I can’t see how they’re going to stop his power. He goes to ground, picks up the ball and gets it out. It’s Patrick Dangerfield like,” David King added.

The Suns were simply harder at the footy from the opening bounce right through until the final siren as they appeared to just walk around Crows defenders at times in the game.

Serious question marks hang over the Crows, both on the field and in their administation, with the losses only amplifying the ugly patch they’re currently stuck in.

Next weekend the Suns will look to lock themselves into the top four when they take on the Fremantle Dockers on Satuday night.

Adelaide can look to get their season back on track when they tackle the Brisbane Lions on Sunday afternoon.
