The popular wife of an Australian footballer has revealed a shock cancer battle just one week after her wedding day.

Liv Cripps, the popular wife of West Coast Eagles footballer Jamie Cripps, has revealed she is battling thyroid cancer just one week after the couple were married.

The 26-year-old posted the news on Saturday with a photo of herself looking frail in a hospital bed. She had never previously divulged the diagnosis to her 9000 Instagram followers.

Jamie Cripps had also never spoken publicly about the diagnosis or the news that the couple have been caring for their one-year-old son Reif while Liv prepared for her cancer treatment.

The Perth-based model wrote she is sharing her journey to encourage others to get checked.

“Cancer is not a word you’d expect to hear at age 26, but a few weeks ago I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer,” she wrote on Instagram.

“So thankful to be surrounded by so many amazing friends and family who have shown so much love and support.

“Sharing my story to help encourage others to get those lumps check because you can never be too sure.”

Her post was flooded with messages of support from well-wishers, including her husband’s football teammates.

Liv Cripps, who previously modelled under the name Liv Stanley, also received messages from former Miss Universe Australia winner Olivia Molly Rogers and opera singer Amy Manford.

Her news came just one week after the couple’s glamorous wedding day, celebrated at the Black Brewing Co near Margaret River in Western Australia.
