Melbourne has dropped young gun key forward Jacob van Rooyen with Ben Brown returning for the Demons for his first game since Round 3.

The Demons have recalled the premiership winner in place of van Rooyen for their clash against GWS in Alice Springs on Sunday.

Brown hasn’t featured at AFL level since Round 3 before he suffered back issues.

James Harmes and Jake Bowey also come into the side for the Demons with James Jordon omitted and Michael Hibberd out with a lacerated kidney he suffered against Geelong.

GWS has dropped No. 1 draft pick Aaron Cadman for the clash.

The key forward only had the three disposals and one tackle in his last game, the Giants big win over Fremantle, and the youngster has been omitted by Adam Kingsley for the clash in Alice.

Key forward Jesse Hogan returns to take on his former club.

Defender Isaac Cumming also returns for the Giants as they look to keep their faint finals hopes alive.

Lachie Whitfield is out through suspension, with the Giants looking for their third win in a row.

Carlton has recalled Jack Silvagni and Ed Curnow for the Blues clash with Hawthorn at the MCG on Sunday.

With Marc Pittonet suffering a PCL injury, Silvagni is set to provide ruck support to Tom De Koning.

But De Koning is under an injury cloud himself, with Lewis Young on standby in the emergencies for the Blues.

The Hawks have brought Chad Wingard back in, along with Fergus Greene and Josh Ward, the latter in for his first game for nearly two months.

Lachie Bramble, Cam Mackenzie and Jacob Koschitzke have been omitted, while Tyler Brockman is out through illness.

Port Adelaide have announced that Junior Rioli will miss its Saturday night blockbuster against Essendon at the MCG through personal reasons.

First round pick Josh Sinn comes into the Power’s 26, while mid-season draftee Quinton Narkle travelled with the team to Melbourne.

Seb Ross returns for St Kilda as the Saints travel west to take on West Coast, with Ben Paton omitted.

The Eagles have brought back Shannon Hurn and Jamie Cripps as they look to respond from last week’s thrashing at the hands of Sydney.

SWANS DEALT HUGE BLOW

The Swans have been dealt a blow for their grand final rematch against the Cats with star midfielder Chad Warner ruled out with a calf injury.

Warner finished with a game-high 33 disposals in the demolition of the Eagles. He played out the game with no concerns but reported calf soreness during the week.

Scans revealed a slight tear which could see the 22-year-old miss more than the Geelong match.

“It’s not something we expected so unfortunately he will be missing,” Longmire said.

The only other change for Sydney sees forward Will Hayward return to the side in place of Ryan Clarke. Robbie Fox moves from the sub role last week into the Swans’ 22.

Clarke was a late inclusion against the Eagles with Hayward battling gastro, but the pair swap places against Geelong.

It means that the Swans will not rush Lance Franklin or Tom McCartin for the clash against the Cats with John Longmire cautious of bringing them back into the action too soon.

McCartin, who played in the VFL last week, is set to play in the Swans’ reserves side again in their curtain-raiser on Friday night. He has also been listed among Sydney’s emergencies.

“(McCartin) pulled up really well which is a good sign,” Longmire said.

“We understand we’re still managing him last week. We want him to come in and play well, but play well for the rest of the year.”

Across town, the Giants are set to welcome back more big names following their week off with the bye.

They head to Alice Springs to take on the Demons on Sunday and key forward Jesse Hogan will travel with the team after being a late withdrawal against Fremantle.

“Hogan had a sore calf, he was a bit touch and go prior to Fremantle but the risk was a little bit too great to include him in that,” Adam Kingsley said.

“But Jesse is fit and ready to go. Other than that, I think we’re pretty healthy.”

Nick Haynes also benefited from the week off after being subbed out of the Dockers clash with an ankle injury. Isaac Cumming played in the VFL last week but has been included in the squad and could replace Lachie Whitfield who serves his one-match suspension.

The Giants will confirm their final 22 on Friday.
