Top-eight spots will be on the line in round 9 as a resurgent Collingwood tries to hold off a chasing pack headed by Fremantle and Gold Coast.

The Suns open the round looking to go two from two in Darwin against a Geelong side which has dropped its past two matches after opening the campaign with seven straight wins.

Fremantle will be favoured to enter its clash with St Kilda as outsider with the bookies despite the Saints dropping their past three matches.

Carlton is also under pressure to stay in the top eight and could drop as low as 10th if the Suns, Dockers and Magpies are victorious — unless it upsets ladder leader Sydney.

It’s shaping as another big round for the finals contenders as they try to make their move or separate themselves from a pack of contenders which is growing by the week.
