Werribee premiership captain Dom Brew has suffered an unfortunate quad injury in his bid to land a list spot at Western Bulldogs.

The hardworking midfielder is on light duties after straining his quad muscle at training and is expected to be back out with the main group in the new year.

Brew, who was given a shot to impress over summer at the kennel, is expected to have fully recovered in time for the first day back on January 9.

While it is a frustrating blow for the 27-year-old, the Dogs have not given up on the tough ballwinner.

The Dogs are yet to bring in any other players for a train-on spot as they weigh up Brew for the club’s last list vacancy ahead of the 2025 season.

The club is still confident the hard nut will be able to showcase his talents upon his return in the hope he will play some practice games in January and February.

The Dogs are looking at Brew to help bolster the midfield after losing Caleb Daniel (North Melbourne), Bailey Smith (Geelong) and Jack Macrae (St Kilda) in the trade period.

Brew was lauded for his excellent year in the VFL in 2024 averaging 28 possessions, 10 clearances and nine tackles as skipper in Werribee’s premiership campaign.

He could make an immediate impact in the club’s engine room if he is given a spot on the AFL list for 2025 under the AFL’s supplemental selection period rules.

Star midfielder Adam Treloar and gun forward Aaron Naughton have been on modified programs as part of their normal training management.

Naughton is slated to play forward again next season and Rory Lobb is set to stay in defence.
