AFL Daily: Richmond defender Dylan Grimes ready for Jordan de Goey job

WHILE an injury cloud hangs over Dustin Martin, Richmond defender Dylan Grimes believes playing just one game in three weeks is good news. Re-cap all the day's breaking news here.

RICHMOND heads into Friday night’s blockbuster having played one game in 27 days, but defender Dylan Grimes insists the week off will benefit his side.

“We’re not changing too much this week, we’re keeping it relatively normal compared to previous byes,” Grimes said.

“This time of year, there’s a lot of sore bodies around, on both sides of the fence, and it’s been a good opportunity to freshen up.”

Fresh off taking All-Australian Luke Breust’s scalp in week one of the finals, Grimes stopped short of calling out a possible match-up against Collingwood star Jordan de Goey.

“I don’t know if I will be lining up on him,” Grimes said.

“I noticed (against GWS) he was playing deep a lot and normally we like to maintain our back six... so not 100 per cent sure what it’s going to look like yet.”

But if required, Grimes is ready to do the job.

“You definitely learn your most from those games when you’re really being tried and tested from different angles and Collingwood do that so well,” Grimes said.

“They’ve got players that can compete so well in the air and they got players like de Goey who’s good in the air and on the ground so as a defensive unit really you have to test yourself.

“It’s going to be a real arm wrestle I think because their strengths in that (pressure) area are similar to ours and I really feel like it’s going to be a big challenge for us to bring the pressure to them as much as they are to us.”
