THE AFL has confirmed the fixture for the preliminary finals for the 2016 finals series.
The Western Bulldogs’ win over Hawthorn means they will now take on GWS at Spotless Stadium in a preliminary final.
AFL spokesman Patrick Keane said that game will be played at 5:15pm to “maximise the television audience outside of NSW who can watch (the) game.”
The other prelim will see the Sydney Swans travel to the MCG to battle the Geelong Cats on Friday night at 7:50pm.
However after defeating the Adelaide Crows, the Swans will have just a six-day break between matches.
Travis Auld, the AFL executive team member responsible for the fixture, said the AFL had determined that the Cats should host the Friday preliminary final, as they were the highest-ranked winner from the weekend’s two qualifying finals.
