PATRICK Dangerfield will play for Geelong thanks to little-known Cat Dean Gore, who spent four days agonising over the move that broke the deadlock.
But footy’s free agency system came under fire last night when West Coast slammed the compensation, pick 37, it received for Scott Selwood, who has joined brother Joel at Geelong.
Eagles chief executive Trevor Nisbett called for a review. “The level of compensation for losing our vice-captain is totally inadequate,” he said.
“Why have restricted free agency and free agency compensation if you are to be treated with such disrespect?”

As negotiations between the Crows and Cats stalled, Gore, 19, was asked last Wednesday night about returning home to South Australia.
The Crows were adamant they would not release Dangerfield unless Gore was added to Geelong’s offer of draft picks nine and 28.

Gore agreed on Sunday night to go and the Cats were handed Adelaide’s pick 50 as a sweetener.
Dangerfield was the first domino to fall yesterday as the 11-day AFL trading window opened. The Cats snared Selwood two hours later and will secure Carlton forward Lachie Henderson in coming days.
Dangerfield, 25, said the move combined his two great loves — family and football.
“I’m lucky enough that the Geelong footy club is just 45 minutes from home,” he said.
“I grew up standing on a milk crate on the Moorabool side watching Buddha (Garry) Hocking ... Geelong is the team I supported.
“It will be nice to put on that guernsey. I’m certainly coming here to win, I expect to win.”
Midfielder Gore, a former Sturt player in the SANFL, was taken at pick 55 in the 2014 draft and had shown great promise in the VFL this year before injuring his shoulder.
“It’s been the craziest four days of my life making this decision,” Gore said.
“It was a complete shock on Wednesday when my manager and people from the Geelong Football Club rang me up to tell me about the situation.
“Over the last few days, I’ve just had to assess my options and write down some positives and negatives for both (outcomes). I’ve chosen the Adelaide footy club and I can’t wait to get stuck into it.”
Dangerfield told the Crows in August that he wanted to join Geelong and Cats coach Chris Scott was happy a “fair” deal had been done.
“Obviously the priority for our coaching group was getting Paddy across the line. It was worked through for a long period of time,” he said.
“While it’s very difficult to achieve an outcome that’s fair for everybody, I think most independent observers will have a look at this one and say both clubs have come away well.”
West Coast failed to match Geelong’s bid for Selwood.
“I just feel like this is the right time for me to head home,” Selwood, who missed selection for the Grand Final, said.
“The last 18 months have been tough with the (ankle) injury and I feel like it’s time to make a fresh start.”
