Auctions will be back on the streets of regional Victoria, as metro Melbourne battles through another week with an online-only market.
Just 270 properties are scheduled to go under the hammer statewide this week, according to the Real Estate Institute of Victoria.
Glen Waverley and Camberwell are Melbourne’s top suburbs for househunters, with seven and six auctions respectively, while Belmont, in Geelong, will also see six.

It comes as up to 10 people will be allowed to attend in-person auctions in regional Victoria– except in Greater Shepparton – from Friday, following an easing of Covid-19 restrictions.
Premier Daniel Andrews announced the changes on Wednesday, noting: “there will be a degree of freedom in regional Victoria that has been hard won and regional Victorians have done a fantastic job.”
And while vendors across the state have postponed or held off on going to auction in order to get in a full campaign, there are still plenty of sales to watch via the Herald Sun’s live auction blog on Saturday.
Closer to the city, this rundown property in Malvern notched a whopping $2.415m sale — $545,000 above the top end of its asking price.
A handful of bidders quickly pushed the sale of the 505sq m block, which also includes an original three-bedroom home, over the $2m mark after consecutive $10,000 bids.
Biggin & Scott’s Tom McCarthy said while some bidders had toyed with the idea of renovating the house, it was likely it would be purchased for the land.
He said the vendor had lived at the property for 30 years.
“It is a cliche to say that they’re not making any more land but the good thing about this one is that its an affordable parcel in a great spot,” Mr McCarthy said.
The property’s listing describes it as an “outstanding new home site”.
79 WATERMOOR AVENUE, KILSYTH SOUTH
In Kilsyth South, nine bidders stuck their hand up for this prime family home which attracted a $1.215m sale price sight unseen.
Barry Plant Croydon’s Nathan Hick said would-be buyers weren’t deterred by the property’s online-only campaign, which was a result of Victoria’s Covid-19 lockdown.
“No one has physically been through it but we had about 80 inquiries for it,” Mr Hick said.
He said he was “blown away” by the confidence of the bidders, especially at that price point.
Mr Hick said the home was “in a great location with the Dandenong Ranges at the doorstep”.
The home was originally listed for $900,000 – $990,000.
On the Mornington Peninsula, 15 bidders fought for the keys to this double brick beach house.
The dated three-bedroom home ultimately sold for $815,000 — well above its $625,000 – $685,000 price guide.
YPA Dromana agent Elke Remscheid almost 50 bids were placed during the auction, despite the home needing some TLC.
Ms Remscheid said the vendors were “very happy with the result”.
The property is close to Arthurs Seat, the beach, local shops and “everything else the Peninsula has to offer”.
10 RAINHAM CLOSE, GREENSBOROUGH
Meanwhile in Greensborough a knockout bid of $1.01m started the fight for this renovated four-bedroom home with “everything you’re looking for”.
The cosy 10 Rainham Close property sold under the hammer for an incredible $1.272m — more than $280,000 above the top end of its $900,000-$990,000 quoted range.
Darren Jones auctioneer James Park asked buyers to start the bidding in the low range of the price guide, but a keen househunter surpassed that in a single opening bid.
It was called on the market at $1.05m after just three bids.
Mr Park said it was an “incredibly sought-after pocket”.
“It’s got everything you want,” he said.
The property is set among the trees and includes two fireplaces, timber floors, a large backyard and outdoor entertaining area.
In Geelong, this “adorable blue beauty” sold for $752,000 via an online auction — despite on-site sales being permitted in regional Victoria again.
The three-bedroom weatherboard home had a $619,000-$669,000 asking price, which was exceeded by almost $100,000 after 28 bids.
Ray White Highton’s George Politis was marketing the 655sq m property, which has a beautifully manicured garden, as the perfect spot to “relax, work and play”.
A “charming” family home in Ferntree Gully also defied its vendors’ expectation to notch an almost $50,000 premium in under 15 minutes.
The quaint three-bedroom abode at 5 Halley Rd had a $660,000-$720,000 price guide.
But after a quick succession of bids from four bidders, it eventually sold for $795,000.
Ray White’s James Wilson said the home, which is on a private no-through road and also has a workshop out back, was the “perfect starter for those entering the market, and downsizers alike”.
Auctioneer Jeremy Tyrell called it a “gorgeous property” at the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges.
He said you could “hear the birds sing” from the backyard.
First up this morning a classic clinker brick home in the city’s southeast sold for $731,000 at an online auction.
The four-bedroom abode in Carrum Downs was originally listed for $635,000 – $695,000.
But 24 bidders soon pushed the price above expectation, battling it out for the keys to the “light-filled” home.
Ray White Frankston’s Ashley Weston had the listing.
