A leading retirement community provider has bought a section of a $2bn, 14-acre waterfront development site which is set to become a major commercial hub in Burleigh Waters.
Odyssey Lifestyle Care Communities snapped up the land, owned by Cru Collective, on the eastern side of Lake Orr.
The Cru precinct is set to dramatically transform the empty site, with plans for a town market square, shops, medical facilities and residential units.
Cru managing director Chris Bolger described Burleigh, Robina and Broadbeach as “the golden triangle”.
“Acquiring a site of this magnitude had sparked the interest of some of the country’s biggest names in retail and commercial ensuring a world-class considered project,” he said.
“The size and location of this site enables it to become a thriving precinct and will attract some heavy hitters.
“Preliminary plans include a mix of waterfront residential, retail – including a market square, commercial and medical — and now the exciting addition of an Odyssey Lifestyle Care Community, and we are thrilled to be working with Phil and his expert team.”
Early works have begun to create the roads which will run through the site, as well as underground utilities ahead of major construction.
It is the latest site bought by Odyssey, which recently snapped up a Hope Island parcel and begun construction on a mixed-use retirement complex at Chevron Island.
Odyssey CEO Phil Usher said the Burleigh tower could rise as high as 45m, or around 14-storeys.
“We have set a high standard in the industry with our consumer-led model and Odyssey’s expansion into Burleigh Waters enables us another opportunity to continue our vision of creating world-class communities that will reshape the aged-care industry,” he said.
“We are currently in talks with architects on how many levels and apartments will be viable, but this community will include a combination of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments with additional penthouse options available.
“This is the ideal blend of retirement and aged care, with no waiting lists and you don’t need to move again as all the services, such as care, are delivered to you as needed into your home from our dedicated on-site team.”
