AFL head honcho Gillon McLachlan has listed the Prahran mansion where he hosted a number of AFL coach dinners in previous years.

McLachlan and wife Laura bought the ritzy six-bedroom pad in 2012 for $4m, according to CoreLogic and now have lofty $10m-$11m price hopes for its sale.

It was also the site where the AFL boss hosted a range of soirees with a handful of the league’s senior coaches, which was previously held annually at the home.

The 1189sq m property is akin to a luxury resort, featuring two storeys, a tennis court and an in-ground swimming pool adjacent to the alfresco entertaining area.

A spacious living room with an open fireplace leads into the stylish kitchen — with two ovens and a butler’s pantry — where McLachlan put on the lavish coach dinners.

The living room also comes with a bar area and opens out on to the airy deck.

An office and bedroom with an ensuite are found on the ground floor, while four further bedrooms are on the top floor, including the main with an ensuite, walk-in wardrobe and balcony.

The listing comes as McLachlan announced his shock departure from the AFL top job earlier this year, with the CEO stating that he will stand down from his role at the end of the 2022 season.

If the home sells in the price range, it would make it one of the inner southern suburb’s most expensive properties.

The reported Prahran residential record is $16m paid in October 2020 for the 1880 six-bedroom mansion on 1688sq m at 33 Grandview Grove.

No.31 on that same stretch sold for $12.75m in 2016, while No. 6 fetched $9.65m in 2021.

When announcing his departure as AFL chief, McLachlan said he was looking forward to more family time after 22 years at league headquarters.

“I’m leaving now because it feels right – right for the AFL, right for me, right for my family,” he said.

It is not yet known who will replace him.

McLachlan declined to comment on the listing, which reignited speculation he might be headed interstate, potentially to run Brisbane’s 2032 Olympics preparations. However, it’s understood the family has purchased another property in Melbourne.

The agent has also been contacted for comment.

Expressions of interest close on September 8.
