Questions swirl over Donald Trump’s real plan for Venezuela
Analysts are questioning Donald Trump’s real intentions after the declaration of a foreign president as a “narco terrorist”.
Welcome to our coverage of US politics on Tuesday.
There is genuine hope that a Gaza ceasefire plan, co-ordinated by the Trump White House, might actually yield some results. Donald Trump will meet with former hostage Evan Alexander in the White House later on Tuesday, US time.
Mr Trump also found time to criticise super star Bad Bunny and the NFL’s “crazy” decision to have him perform at next year’s Super Bowl. But he also claimed he didn’t know who Bad Bunny was.
Attorney-General Pam Bondi faced US senators on Tuesday in a bad tempered scrutiny session.
One topic she was grilled on was the Epstein files where she told a senator she “would not discuss” what has become an ongoing issue for the Trump administration.
A Democratic politician – who is being investigated by Ms Bondi’s Justice Department over what he says are trumped up allegations pushed by Mr Trump – chided her. He claimed she was determined during the session not to answer questions on Mr Trump’s influence on her, and her department’s, decisions.
Also on Tuesday, the US president met Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney where he managed to make a quip out of his “51st state” calls that made even the Canadian laugh.
