US politics live: Trump, Putin agree to Ukraine ceasefire – with a catch

Footage has shown the moment the Russian President Vladimir waved off concerns he was running late for his highly-anticipated call with Donald Trump.

Putin laughs about keeping Trump waiting

Welcome to our live coverage of US politics.

Donald Trump has pushed Vladimir Putin into agreeing to a – very limited – 30 day ceasefire in Ukraine.
While any truce is welcome in the bloody war, the truce won’t go far in stopping the bloodshed.

But both sides have said they are working toward a longer peace plan.

On Tuesday, US time, Mr Trump was also essentially told off by a US Supreme Court judge.

The slap down came after the President claimed another judge who ruled against one of his acts was “radical left” and should be impeached for defying him.

America’s highest court judges – who play a vital role in the country’s democracy – usually remain above the political fray. As such, the intervention of Chief Justice John Roberts, a conservative, is rare and notable.

The Trump administration has promised to release a trove of classified papers relating to the assassination of President John F Kennedy on Tuesday.

Mr Trump said the files could amount to 80,000 pages.

“I don’t believe we’re going to redact anything,” he said.

There have long been conspiracy theories around President Kennedy’s death.

Elon Musk’s DOGE pseudo-department has reportedly seized control of the United States Institute of Peace, a taxpayer-funded body whose goal is to prevent conflict where possible, worldwide.

The institute has said the Trump administration has gone too far as it owns the building and its funding is from Congress.

Mr Trump has also stripped Joe Biden’s children, Hunter and Ashley, of their Secret Service protection, citing the resources required to keep them safe.
