Donald Trump has ordered the firing of all remaining US attorneys nominated by his predecessor Joe Biden.

“Over the past four years, the Department of Justice has been politicized (sic) like never before,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.

“Therefore, I have instructed the termination of ALL remaining ‘Biden Era’ U.S. Attorneys,” he said.

“We must ‘clean house’ IMMEDIATELY, and restore confidence,” the US President added.

“America’s Golden Age must have a fair Justice System – THAT BEGINS TODAY!”

It is standard practice for an incoming president to replace the federal prosecutors, known as US attorneys, nominated by their predecessor.

There are 93 US attorneys, one for each of the 94 federal court districts in the country.

Two districts share a US attorney.

US attorneys are the top federal law enforcement officer in each district.

A number of US attorneys nominated by Democrat Biden resigned following Mr Trump’s November election victory in anticipation of being replaced.

The Justice Department, which Mr Trump has accused of unjustly prosecuting him, has been the target of a sweeping shake-up since the Republican took office and a number of high-ranking officials have been fired, demoted or reassigned.

Among those sacked were members of the office of special counsel Jack Smith, who brought two now-abandoned criminal cases against Mr Trump.

he acting US attorney for the powerful Southern District of New York, a Trump appointee, resigned last week after being asked by the Justice Department to drop corruption charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams.

MUSK MOCKS ‘TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME’

Elon Musk compared the left’s so-called “Trump Derangement Syndrome” to rabies, saying he used to be “adored” by progressives before he threw his support and money behind US President Donald Trump.

The world’s richest man and Mr Trump sat down for a joint interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, where Mr Musk reflected on his fall from the left’s graces and his frustration with their inability to engage in “a normal conversation”.

“There’s this whole sort of, you know … they call it like Trump Derangement Syndrome. You don’t realise how real this is until, like — it’s like you can’t reason with people,” he said.

Mr Musk, 53, recalled how he was at a birthday dinner in Los Angeles about a month or two before the presidential election where everything was going fine until he brought up Mr Trump’s name.

“It was like they got shot with a dart in the jugular that contained, like, methamphetamine and rabies,” he joked, mockingly acting out what that would look like.

“Like, guys? You can’t have, like, a normal conversation,” he continued. “It’s like they become completely irrational.”

At another point in the interview, which will air in full on Wednesday at 1pm AEDT, Hannity asked Mr Trump, 78, about the left-learning media’s apparent desire to see he and Mr Musk turn on each other in some sort of power struggle.

“Elon called me, he said ‘They’re trying to drive us apart’ and I said ‘absolutely,” Mr Trump said.

“They said, ‘We have breaking news, Donald Trump has ceded control of the presidency to Elon Musk. President Musk will be attending a cabinet meeting tonight at 8 o’clock,’” Trump said, scoffing.

“And I say, it’s just so obvious,” he said of the media’s attempts to derail his relationship with Mr Musk.

Time Magazine recently published a cover featuring Mr Musk sitting behind the President’s White House desk.

“You know what I’ve learned, Elon?” he said, turning to the Tesla and X CEO, “That people are smart. They get it. They really see what’s happening.”

PANAMA DENIES MIGRANTS FROM US DEPRIVED OF THEIR FREEDOM

Panama’s government has denied that migrants deported by the United States who were seen holding up signs to hotel windows pleading for help were being held against their will.

Public Security Minister Frank Abrego said the migrants were not being “deprived of their freedom” while they await repatriation.

“They are in our custody for their protection,” he said.

Police were seen guarding the Decapolis Hotel in Panama City, where women believed to be part of the group held up handwritten signs to journalists below saying “Please help us” and “We are not safe in our country.”

According to Abrego, the group includes migrants from China, India, Iran and Vietnam.

Those who do not go home voluntarily would be transferred to a shelter in the Darien jungle, near the border with Colombia, while the International Organisation for Migration and the UN refugee agency organise their relocation to another country, Abrego said.

JUDGE HANDS DOWN DECISION IN CASE AGAINST DOGE

US judge has declined a request to temporarily block Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from firing federal employees and accessing agency data.

It came after 14 Democratic-ruled states filed suit last week contesting Mr Musk’s authority but District Judge Tanya Chutkan denied their emergency request to pause his actions.

The judge said the states had not shown specific examples of how the work of Mr Musk’s DOGE could cause the states irreparable harm.

SOCIAL SECURITY HEAD QUITS

The Social Security Administration’s acting commissioner reportedly resigned over the weekend after a dispute with DOGE over the Musk-led group’s efforts to access sensitive government records.

Michelle King, a career federal worker who had been with SSA since 1994, quit over the DOGE disagreement on Saturday and was replaced by Leland Dudek, the Washington Post reported Monday.

Dudek, who has been supportive of DOGE’s efforts to root out waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government, will serve as acting commissioner of SSA until President Trump’s pick to lead the agency, Frank Bisignano, is confirmed by the Senate, according to the outlet.

DOGE staffers embedded at SSA reportedly sought access to sensitive files in the same manner they have at other federal agencies, such as the Treasury Department, since Trump established the cost-cutting initiative.

SSA, which manages Social Security payments for more than 70 million Americans, holds troves of personal data.
