Soccer star Sam Kerr took to her Instagram account to show massive support for fellow athlete, US women’s basketball star Caitlin Clark.

Kerr posed for fun and supportive photos holding up Clark’s jersey, which is number 22 of the Iowa Hawkeyes, and even pulling it between her teeth.

In her Instagram story on Sunday, Kerr put the jersey at her socked but shoeless feet and tagged Nike Basketball, which has 16.2 million followers. She had not posted to the social media platform since February 25.

Last week, the legal team for the Chelsea striker filed their skeleton arguments with a London crown court.

A record-breaking television audience of 12.3 million people in the US watched Clark last week, the all-time leading scorer for men or women in the history of US college basketball, score 41 points in Iowa’s 94-87 victory over the Tigers in a rematch of last year’s March Madness championship game.

The 22-year-old Hawkeyes guard, set to be the top pick in the April 15 Women’s NBA Draft, matched the record for a women’s NCAA tournament game and passed Diana Taurasi, who is considered to be one of the greatest players in WNBA history, for the all-time 3-pointers record in the event.

Specifically this weekend, Kerr seemed to be barracking for Clark’s team to win Sunday’s University of Iowa team vs. South Carolina in the climax to this year’s March Madness.

Clark, a scoring phenomenon, has emerged as a sporting icon during Iowa’s journey to Sunday’s showpiece, with her dazzling performances attracting sellout crowds and shattering TV rating records.

Irrespective of the result of Sunday’s game, Clark will walk away with the sports world at her feet.

She will be chosen by the Indiana Fever with the No. 1 pick in the WNBA Draft later this month, and is also a contender to be selected by the United States team for the Paris Olympics.

Top sponsors are scrambling to align their brands behind the “Caitlin Clark Effect”, ensuring the young guard will be set for life financially before she even sets foot on a WNBA court.

Clark’s rocketing fame has extended beyond US college basketball, garnering international attention that has been compared to pop icon Taylor Swift.

It comes as Matildas veteran Mackenzie Arnold revealed there has been no discussion about Kerr’s Matilda’s captaincy as the Aussies prepare for their first match since charges were laid against their leader.

The Matildas are currently in the US preparing for a friendly match with Mexico on Wednesday (AEST).

Kerr remains in London as she continues to tend to her knee injury, which has ruled her out of the Paris Olympics.
