Israel-Iran conflict: Donald Trump appears to be mocked by Dutch Queen on live TV
The Queen of Netherlands has gone viral after appearing to ridicule Donald Trump after NATO chief referred to him as ‘daddy’.
Queen Maxima of the Netherlands has been accused of mimicking Donald Trump during a public appearance — while standing right beside him.
The moment unfolded as Mr Trump posed for photos with Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander following his arrival in the Netherlands for the NATO summit on Wednesday.
In the video, the three are seen smiling for the cameras. Mr Trump then gives a thumbs-up, while the King stands slightly closer to him than the Queen.
The US President and the King share a brief exchange, laughing together, as Queen Máxima remains silent, smiling for photographers.
“That’s the picture we want,” Mr Trump said in the clip, to which King Willem-Alexander replies, “Well I hope you slept well!”
“It was great, the house is...” Mr Trump begins, smiling before turning to thank those present.
At that moment, Queen Maxima appears to mimic the movement of Mr Trump’s mouth before quickly turning her face back to the cameras.
Viewers online were quick to react, with one person commenting: “I’ve never been a fan of our stiff monarchy, but Queen Máxima rocks it! Treat him like a baby.”
Others pointed to her apparent body language. “The Queen keeping her distance,” one user noted, while another added, “Looks like she has calculated how much separation from Trump she can achieve and be in the picture.”
It comes as NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte has bizarrely referred to the US President as “Daddy” during a joint press conference at The Hague.
Mr Rutte made the comment as Mr Trump was comparing the fighting between Israel and Iran to children fighting in a schoolyard — a day after Mr Trump launched a blistering attack on both countries over the ongoing barrage of missiles being fired at each other.
Mr Rutte laughed and quickly added: “Daddy has to sometimes use strong language to get it stopped.”
Later, during an interview with Reuters, Mr Rutte backtracked on the “daddy” remark, saying that while he did use the word “daddy” during the press conference, he did so after Mr Trump compared Israel and Iran to two children fighting.
