Donald Trump reveals Melania’s heartbreak after assassination attempt declaring ‘she loves me’

Donald Trump has revealed how the attempt on his life has impacted his wife of nearly 20 years.

Donald Trump has revealed his wife Melania watched his assassination attempt live on TV and is unable to speak to him about the horrific day in a sign he says shows “she loves me”.

The former US President survived an attempt on his life by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks at a rally on July 13.

Melania did not attend the event but was watching it live on TV from home.

“She was watching,” Mr Trump said in an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham.

“She was watching live. It was all over the place. It was on television.”

Mr Trump said his wife of nearly 20 years cannot talk to him about the incident, in a sign he has taken as love.

“She can’t even really talk about it. That’s okay, that means she likes me – she loves me. She could talk about it freely, I’m not so sure which is better. She either likes or loves me, that’s nice,” Mr Trump said.

He also vowed to continue attending outdoor rallies despite being encouraged not to do so by Secret Service.

“Yeah, I’m going to do rallies [outside],” Trump, 78, told Fox News, adding “I think it’s important symbolically.

“I don’t think we should be stopped by somebody that has severe mental problems or whatever his problem was.”

Aside from her appearance at the Republican National Convention, where she glided into the Milwaukee arena accompanied by classical music, Melania has been notably absent for much of her husband’s race for the White House.

The former first lady, however, is helping to boost the Trump campaign coffers in her own unique way by putting her name to a new range of jewellery.

Aimed primarily at men, the Fortitude Collection features a range of patriotic medallions that are destined to be a hit with Trump loyalists, The Times reports.

The Bravery and Liberty medallions sell for $A260 each for the gold-plated option and for $A190 in stainless steel.

The Bravery medallion features an image of an American serviceman with a US flag in the background, while Liberty comes in the shape of the classic American bald eagle.

The medallions are left blank on the back to allow the buyer the option of engraving personalised messages.

Announcing the merchandise in an email to Trump supporters, former model Melania said the Fortitude Collection was designed to “celebrate our service members, our nation and our freedom”.

The money from sales of the necklaces will go towards Mr Trump’s campaign as he takes on Vice President Kamala Harris, who is now the presumptive Democratic nominee after US President Joe Biden stood down.

Meanwhile, TV host Jimmy Fallon threw shade at Donald and Melania Trump after Ms Harris’s campaign gained steam in a matter of days, joking about Melania’s alleged spending.

“Harris just launched her presidential campaign, and she’s already broken the 24 hour fundraising record and secured enough delegates to clinch the nomination,” Fallon said on The Tonight Show.

“That’s right. Kamala raised $81 million in 24 hours. She would have raised even more, but Melania hit her daily withdrawal limit.”

Ms Harris was quick off the mark to launch her own range of merchandise after Mr Biden dropped out, releasing a range of T-shirts, drinks containers and baseball caps.

In an email entitled “Introducing: Madam President”, supporters were invited to buy a T-shirt for $A50, a “Harris onesie” for $A45 or a coffee mug for $A30.

“As we prepare to elect our first Madam President, this is your chance to become a founding member of Kamala’s team,” the email said.

“This is a significant moment that you’ll want to remember for generations to come. What better way to do that than by investing in our campaign with newly released merch? Your purchase today will help Kamala start her path to the presidency strong!”

Melania is no stranger to merchandise, having launched her first necklace last April for Mother’s Day.

She said the customised piece, called “Her Love & Gratitude” and available exclusively on the former first lady’s website, was designed to thank and honour “all mothers”.

Reaction to her new collection was mixed as social media users commented on the former first lady’s Instagram posts promoting her new venture.

One person wrote: “Have you no shame?”, while another described the medallion as “beautiful”.
