Unlike his estranged brother Prince William, who received a ceremonial bell concert at Westminster Abbey on the milestone birthday, Prince Harry will be able to access his share of the trust when he turns 40 as one of the fund’s stipulations, The Times reports.

The exiled Prince Harry will have to pay tax on his future commercial earnings, The Mirror reports, whereas estranged brother Prince William will benefit from the tax-exempt Duchy of Cornwall, a private estate that funds his public, charitable and private activities.

It comes after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s long-held claim they had no choice but to do the Netflix documentary to finally tell their side of the story has come undone with a central character coming forward to speak her truth.

Veteran BBC journalist Mishal Husain conducted the couple’s official engagement interview in 2017 following the happy news Prince Harry had popped the question to Suits star Meghan Markle.

Ms Husain and BBC executives were caught off-guard when in their explosive 2022 Netflix tell-all the pair claimed the entire interview was an “orchestrated reality show”.

“It was, you know, rehearsed,” Meghan said in the documentary.

“So we did the thing out with the press and then we went right inside, took the coat off and did the interview so it’s all in that same moment.

“My point is we weren’t allowed to tell our story because they didn’t want …”

“Well, we’ve never been allowed to tell our story,” Harry continued. “That’s the consistency.”

At the time of the Netflix expose, Ms Husain tweeted, “recollections may vary,” in a nod to the statement the late Queen Elizabeth issued in the wake of the Sussexes’ bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview.

Now, Ms Husain has spoken about the matter at length in an essay she penned for the August issue of Saga magazine.

“When the Duchess of Sussex said that my engagement interview with her and Harry was an ‘orchestrated reality show’ I didn’t know what to make of it,” Ms Husain wrote.

“They seemed to have thought through what their new lives would be like and what marriage would mean for her life in particular.

“There was nothing that pointed to what would happen.

“It was two people who were full of joy in each other and life.”

Ms Husain’s revelation comes as Meghan and Harry put a halt to their househunting efforts to find a residence in Windsor amid their ongoing legal battle as to whether they should be entitled to taxpayer funded security while in the UK.

“Harry really does want to spend more time in the UK but doesn’t feel comfortable doing that until the security issues have been ironed out,” a source told The Express.

While both Ms Husain’s essay and the pause on their real estate ambitions are twin blows to the self-exiled royals, Meghan’s weekend escapades suggest she remains in good spirits.

The duchess was spotted lunching at trendy Italian restaurant Tre Lune on Sunday with Father Of The Bride actor Kimberly Williams-Paisley.

The uber cool restaurant, located nearby the Sussexes’ Montecito mansion, is a favourite haunt of Kourtney Kardashian, Ellen DeGeneres and Sofia Richie.
