Ivana Trump died from injuries after falling down stairs at home

Ivana Trump’s cause of death in her New York apartment have finally been confirmed after her body was examined.

Ivana Trump died from injuries sustained as the result of a fall, the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has confirmed.

The first wife of former president Donald Trump was 73.

The couple had three children together: Donald Jnr, Ivanka and Eric.

Police were called to carry out a wellness check at the apartment at 10 East 64th Street in Manhattan, where Ms Trump was found unresponsive from a suspected cardiac arrest.

Emergency medical services attended soon after where the mother-of-three was declared dead at the scene.

Police had been investigating whether the Trump matriarch had fallen because she was found at the base of a set of stairs in her apartment on the Upper East Side.

The medical examiner on Saturday (AEST) the cause of death was blunt impact injuries to the torso sustained as the result of a fall. The manner of death is an accident and is not suspicious, the medical examiner said.

Members of the Trump family responded with tributes on social media.

Lara Trump, wife of Ivana’s son Eric Trump, told Fox News her death was a “big loss” to the family.

“She was a tough love kind of mum … She made sure they had good manners … and gave them the strength and resiliency they all have,” she said.

“A lot of people always note that about my husband and his siblings — that they are very strong individuals.

“A lot of people think that’s because they have a tough dad, that’s part of it, but they also had an incredibly tough mum.”

IVANA’S FINAL HOURS

Ivana Trump dined at her favourite New York City restaurant just hours before she was found dead at the bottom of a staircase in her Manhattan apartment.

The 73-year-old ex-wife of former President Donald Trump was located just after 12.30pm Thursday local time after paramedics responded to a call for a person suffering from cardiac arrest, according to the FDNY.

The owner of Altesi Ristorante, Paola Alavian, told The US Sun the Trump matriarch visited the restaurant on Wednesday afternoon.

She said she appeared to be in good spirits albeit a little fatigued.

“As always she asked me how I was doing – she was always supporting us – and we just shared an extremely normal conversation, the kind I had almost every day I saw her,” Alavian said through tears.

“Her health seemed normal, she looked maybe a little bit tired, but she otherwise seemed OK.”

Alavian said she couldn’t recall what Ivana ordered but said her meal had a “very, very small amount of food.”

TRUMP PAYS TRIBUTE TO ‘AMAZING WOMAN’

In a statement on his platform Truth Social, Donald Trump remembered Ivana as a “wonderful, beautiful, and amazing woman, who led a great and inspirational life.”

“I am very saddened to inform all of those that loved her, of which there are many, that Ivana Trump has passed away at her home in New York City,’ he wrote.

“Her pride and joy were her three children, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric,” he wrote. “She was so proud of them, as we were all so proud of her. Rest in Peace, Ivana!”

Ivanka Trump paid A heartfelt tribute to her late mother on social media.

“Heartbroken by the passing of my mother,” Ivanka wrote in an Instagram post, where she also shared a selection of stunning photos.

“Mom was brilliant, charming, passionate and wickedly funny. She modelled strength, tenacity and determination in her every action.

“She lived life to the fullest — never forgoing an opportunity to laugh and dance. I will miss her forever and will keep her memory alive in our hearts always.”

A source close to Ivanka said the former first daughter is in “shock” over her mother’s death.

“They were super close,” the source told the NY Post, noting that Ivana Trump had spent her last days with family in New York City.

“Her health has been in decline over the past few years,” they added.

In a statement shared to media, the Trump family said their “mother was an incredible woman’.

“A force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and caring mother and friend,” the Trump family said in the statement.

“Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled from communism and embraced this country. She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion and determination,” the family said. “She will be dearly missed by her mother, her three children and ten grandchildren.”

Ms Trump grew up under Communist rule in the former Czechoslovakia. She fled the country in 1971 after marrying Austrian Alfred Winklmayr, and obtaining Austrian citizenship.

She married Donald Trump in 1977 they had three children together, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric, before the couple divorced in 1992 amid Mr Trump’s reportedly numerous infidelities.

They were one of New York’s high-profile couples throughout the 1980s, with their split said to have been driven by an affair with actress Marla Maples.

Following the couple’s divorce, she told Oprah Winfrey in a 1992 interview that “I will not let men dominate me anymore.”

She made an iconic cameo in the 1996 film The First Wives Club, with the enduring line: ”Ladies, you have to be strong and independent. And remember: don’t get mad, get everything!”

Mr Trump married his second wife, Ms Maples in 1999, before divorcing her and marrying his third and current wife, Melania Trump, in 2005.

Ivana, meanwhile, married again twice, first to Italian businessman Riccardo Mazzucchelli in 1995, whom she divorced two years later. In 2008 she married Italian actor and model Rossano Rubicondi, who was more than 20 years her junior.

Eric Trump was the first of her children to post a personalised tribute to his mother, posting images of the part together on Instagram long with the family’s statement.

Former mayor Rudy Giuliani praised Ms Trump, saying she “contributed greatly, particularly to New York.”

“Ivana Trump was a truly talented, creative and beautiful person,” he tweeted.

“She and President Donald J. Trump gave the world exceptionally good, balanced and decent children.”

TV host Geraldo Rivera called her death a “gut punch” for the Trump family, adding that she was a “steady, steady influence on the children”.

“Ivana was poised, classy and a great mom,” Rivera said on Fox News.

“What they did, despite all of the odds, was raise three wonderful children,” he added after recounting their epic divorce battle.

Roger Stone, a friend of hers going back five decades, said Thursday that Ms Trump “was a gracious lady, a great mother and an incredible hostess. I was sad to hear of her passing.”

He added that as a businesswoman, she “ran a tight ship at the Plaza.”
