The husband of former Neighbours star Holly Candy will become British political party Reform UK’s treasurer after cutting ties with the Conservative Party.
Billionaire property magnate Nick Candy has revealed he has defected to Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party after being fed up with “too many broken promises” by the Conservatives.
Reports in the British press on Tuesday said Mr Candy had accused the Tories of a “complete breach of trust with the wealth creators in our country” – he will take up his new role with Reform UK in the new year.
Mr Candy said: “I have today resigned my membership of the Conservative Party after many years of active support and substantial donations to the party.
“I am sorry to say there have been too many broken promises and a complete breach of trust with the wealth creators in our country”.
Mr Farage said he was thrilled with Mr Candy’s decision to join Reform.
“I warmly welcome this decision,” he said.
“We are the fastest-growing movement in British politics today and Nick’s efforts will help Reform UK transform our country”.
His wife Holly, (nee Valance), moved to the UK two decades ago and the pair have two children.
The 41-year-old dominated the headlines earlier in the year after she hit out at Australia and accused it of becoming too “woke”.
“The Australia I grew up in was unreal. It was so fun and we didn’t seem to have all these problems,” she said.
“The woke stuff’s really gone big in Australia.”
She also said many people begin at a younger age with left-leaning views before shifting to the right.
“I would say that everyone starts off as a leftie, then wakes up at some point, after you start either making money, working, trying to run a business, trying to buy a home, and then you realise what crap ideas they all are,” she said.
“And then you go to the right.”
Actress and model Olympia Valance, distanced herself from the political views of her half-sister and said in March: “We don’t have the same views and opinions”.
“I don’t believe what she believes.
“We’re allowed to have different opinions, she’s still family and I love her to bits but we don’t agree politically.
In 2022 Holly and Nick Candy were pictured at a dinner with US president-elect Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
At the time Mr Farage, who was also there, shared a photo of himself on X, with the caption: “Great dinner at Mar-a-Lago”.
At the UK’s 2024 election Labour won 411 seats, the Conservatives won 121 seats and Reform UK won five seats.
Reform UK has continued to cause concerns for the Tories, headed up by Kemi Badenoch, and in recent days the former Conservative Party’s home secretary Suella Braverman’s husband Rael announced he was leaving the party to join Reform.
It resulted in Braverman telling the media she would not be following her husband and leaving the Tories.
“I’m not defecting to Reform … This is the 21st century and not the 18th — my husband does not speak for me nor does he control my political affiliations,” she said.
