Elon Musk breaks silence over Amber Heard and Johnny Depp defamation trial

Billionaire Elon Musk has weighed in on the explosive Amber Heard-Johnny Depp defamation trial with a devastating tweet.

Billionaire Elon Musk has weighed in on the explosive Amber Heard-Johnny Depp defamation trial as the jury started deliberations following closing arguments.

The Tesla founder, who was linked to Heard after her divorce from Depp, tweeted about the high-profile trial on Saturday.

“I hope they both move on. At their best, they are each incredible,” Musk tweeted.

The Tesla and Space X founder was first reported to be dating Heard in 2016.

The two broke up in August 2017 due to their busy schedules but rekindled their romance in January 2018, only to split for a second time a month later.

During the defamation trial, Heard told she met “gentleman” Musk at the 2016 Met Gala after then husband Depp “effectively stood me up on the red carpet”.

Depp has accused the Aquaman actress of beginning a romantic relationship with Musk “no later than one month after” she and Depp married in 2015.

According to People magazine, a representative for Musk has maintained that “Elon and Amber didn’t start seeing each other until May 2016, and even then it was infrequent. Their relationship didn’t become romantic until some time later.”

Depp and Heard’s marriage broke down in May 2016, when Heard filed for divorce and then sought a domestic violence restraining order against him.

Depp denied Heard’s abuse claims, and the former couple settled their divorce out of court in August 2016.

Depp is suing Heard for $50 million (A$70) million in damages for defamation over a December 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post.

In the article, Heard referred to herself as a public figure representing domestic abuse, though she didn’t mention Depp by name in the article.

In turn, Heard is countersuing Depp for defamation, seeking $100 million in damages.

Lawyers for both Depp, 58, and Heard, 36, made their final appeals to the jury in the Fairfax County Court, Virginia, on Friday, after dozens of hours of testimony and six weeks of explosive allegation s of domestic violence.

The court heard allegations that Depp’s middle finger was severed when Heard allegedly threw vodka bottles at him during a fight at their Gold Coast mansion, where they were staying while Depp filmed Pirates of the Caribbean 5 in 2015.

In closing arguments, Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez landed one final savage blow by claiming Heard had no friends.

“You may have noticed that no one showed up for Ms Heard in this courtroom other than her sister,” Ms Vasquez said.

“Every other witness who travelled to Virginia for her was a paid expert.

“This is a woman who burns bridges. Her close friends don’t show up for her.”

Ms Vasquez then delivered another brutal swipe at Heard, responding to her lawyers’ claims that all of Depp’s witnesses who testified in the case were “on his payroll” and too afraid to go against him.

“Kate Moss is most definitely not on Mr Depp’s payroll,” Ms Vasquez said, referencing the British supermodel’s explosive testimony this week dispelling a rumour Depp pushed her down a flight of stairs during their relationship in the mid-90s.

If Depp wins, the jury may award more or less than the $50 million he is seeking.

If Heard wins, she will not have to pay the damages and she could receive damages of her own over her $100 million counterclaims that she was defamed by having her allegations called false.

Depp has already been dropped from major film franchises as a result of Heard’s allegations, including Fantastic Beasts and Pirates of the Caribbean.

While Heard’s role in Aquaman 2 was reduced, the trial revealed it was due to her lack of chemistry with Jason Momoa.
