Brian Laundrie’s full autopsy released with gruesome new details

Brian Laundrie, the killer of social media star Gabby Petito, had something unexpected - and gruesome - happen to him, police have revealed.

Laundrie takes responsibility for Petito's death in notebook

The body of Gabby Petito’s killer Brian Laundrie was “gnawed” at by animals after he died, autopsy results reveal.

Laundrie died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head as police hunted for him after the murder of his girlfriend, social media influencer Gabby Petito, 22.

Her death and the hunt for Laundrie made headlines around the world.

The gunshot wound caused extensive skull fractures to the 23-year-old, according to a newly released report by a Florida medical examiner’s office - but the report also revealed something unexpected.

Authorities recovered “the vast majority of the skeleton,” aside from a few bones from his teeth and his face.

But the bones they did have showed signs of “gnawing and chewing” from “post-mortem scavenging/carnivore activity” — including portions from his arms and legs.

The skeleton was found near a pair of green shorts, slip-on shoes, a white metal ring, a backpack and a handgun among “overgrown vegetation”.

At the nearby “secondary” scene, authorities found animal skeletal remains that could be evidence of hunting, a handwritten half note and a “MOAB Coffee Roasters” hat.

They also found a drybag with Laundrie’s journal and a wooden box with a small notebook and a picture of himself.

The young couple was on a cross-country trip when Ms Petito went missing and Laundrie returned home in her van without her September 1.

Her remains were found in a Wyoming campground on September 19.

A manhunt for Laundrie began when he suddenly vanished soon after returning from the road trip. His remains were eventually discovered at the Carlton Reserve near his parents’ home in Florida on October 20.

Police said his remains had been lying around for weeks inside the park before they were found, which created challenges for coroners.

The FBI has previously said notebook entries revealed Laundrie admitted killing Ms Petito. Although they didn’t say exactly what words he used, the FBI said he made “written statements by Mr Laundrie claiming responsibility for Ms. Petito’s death”.
