Two men killed in separate WA worksite incidents

Tragedy has struck at two separate worksites within hours of each other.

Two men have died in separate workplace incidents in Western Australia.

The first death was a man aged in his 20s. He died at a concrete factory in Dalwallinu, about 255km northeast of Perth.

The man was declared dead when police arrived at the facility.

The incident occurred about 12.40pm on Wednesday and was linked to an incident involving a forklift carrying a heavy load.

Just two hours later, in the southern Perth suburb of O’Connor, another male worker died on the job.

The 32-year-old man died at a construction site about 2.30pm.

He was crushed while working in the basket of an elevating work platform.

WorkSafe investigators are looking into both incidents.

Nationally, workplace deaths are on pace to be lower than last year.

Safe Work Australia data shows the preliminary 2023 workplace death figure stood at 175.

Up to March 28, there have been 24 deaths this year.

So far this year, there have been seven transport, postal and warehousing deaths.

There were six in agriculture, forestry and fishing.

Sixty transport, postal and warehousing workers died last year, with 31 construction workers dying on the job.
