Workmates of a driller who was killed on site in Western Australia’s Goldfields have made a heartbreaking tribute to their colleague.
Peter Groves, 29, was working on a gold exploration project at Apollo Hill near Kalgoorlie when he was killed last Thursday.
His heartbroken colleague of seven years Michael Goss has set up a fundraiser for Mr Groves’ family, saying it had been a privilege to watch him grow into the amazing man they loved.
“He was not just a co-worker but a beloved friend to many in our community, his partner Candice and his mum Julie-Ann are in pure disbelief along side with the rest of his family and friends,” he said.
“He was one of them blokes who had non-stop energy from when he woke up ready to go drilling to finishing his day and heading off to his swag to call his number one Candice.
“There was never a dull morning or day at the rig when Peter was around – that energy, that smile, that laugh you had Pete will not be forgotten and we will miss you so much my friend.”
Mr Goss is hoping to raise $25,000 for Mr Groves’ family to cover expenses following his death.
Friends of Mr Grove paid tribute to him on social media over the weekend as news broke about his death.
Neil Grieg shared Mr Groves went to work on his drill rig at Apollo Hill mine doing what he loved, but sadly the day took a turn for the worst and he tragically passed away.
“RIP mate you will be damn missed,” he said.
“The loud laugh the cheeky smile and the happiness you brought to me was next level after losing one brother you somehow managed to make everyone laugh at their worst. You had to be the most special,” Mitchell Laurent said.
