Man trapped in backyard hole in Hillarys, Perth

A man has fallen into a massive open air backyard hole on a suburban property and 12 fire crews are on scene trying to get him out.

Up to 12 fire and rescue crews are working furiously to rescue a man after he fell into a massive backyard hole in the suburbs.

WA Fire and Rescue were called to the Hillarys property in Perth about 2.50pm following reports the man had fallen into a hole.

“We have a trench rescue team there,” a Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said.

“They are working to make the area safe before they extract the person from the hole.”

Photos from the scene show the man in the a big open air hole near the fence line, with what appears to be a sheet over his head.

The spokeswoman said emergency services were unsure what had precipitated the man’s fall into the hole.

Ambulance crews are also on scene, she said.

Hillarys is a beachside suburb in Perth’s outer north.

It is expected the man will be brought to safety.
