A former AFL player will spend another week in prison on remand over a crash that killed two elderly women and injured a 12-year-old girl.

A former Collingwood AFL player will spend another week in prison on remand before his bail application can be heard due to a technical hitch that has thrown Western Australia’s court system into chaos.

Shannon John Cox, 38, was due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court to have his bail application heard via video link on Tuesday, but the court’s video-link system will be down for the remainder of the week.

Mr Cox is facing two counts of dangerous driving for a double fatality that occurred on the Brand Highway in Cooljarloo, about 170km north of Perth, about 9am on June 9.

WA Police will allege Mr Cox was behind the wheel of a Toyota Prado travelling southbound when it collided with a Suzuki Ignis hatchback travelling north.

A white Volvo road train towing two trailers travelling northbound was also involved in the crash near the intersection of Waddi Rd.

Former Collingwood player Shannon John Cox will spend another week in prison before his bail application can be heard.

Two women – an 82-year-old driver and her 83-year-old passenger – travelling in the hatchback died at the scene.

A 12-year-old girl was also injured during the incident.

Both Mr Cox and the 31-year-old male driver of the Volvo truck weren’t injured in the crash.

Mr Cox, who played 25 games for the Magpies before retiring from the AFL in 2009, will have his bail application heard on June 27.
