Six teenagers, including a 13-year-old, have been charged after teenage boy was stabbed at a high school in Perth, plunging the school into lockdown.

Police attended Ellenbrook Secondary School in Perth’s northeast at about 3pm on Monday local time after reports of an “altercation between a group of youths”.

Inspector Gary Butler alleged a gang of six armed youths gathered outside the secondary school and wounded the 15-year-oldstudent on the bicep and head with a knife.

The group of boys, who witnesses claimed were armed with weapons and dressed in black hoodies and ski masks, were gathered outside the school gates shortly after the end-of-day bell rang.

The boys fled the scene shortly after the attack, but were then taken into custody.

Inspector Butler said the boy was transported to St John of God Midland Hospital in a stable condition.

“The group of youths were (allegedly) armed – police responded extremely quickly and we have six juvenile males in custody helping us with our inquiries,” Inspector Butler told reporters.

“The (alleged) victim has a puncture wound to his left bicep – it’s luckily not serious and we’re very thankful for that.”

Six boys, who are not believed to be students at the school, were arrested in what Inspector Butler alleged was a “targeted” attack.

The six teenagers – two 16-year-olds, a 15-year-old, two 14-year-olds and a 13-year-old – were charged with disorderly behaviour in a public place, being armed in a way that may cause fear, unlawful wounding and assault occasioning bodily harm.

One youth was also charged with carrying or possessing an edged weapon.

Three of the charged teenagers will face Perth Children’s Court on Tuesday.

The remaining three will appear at court at a later date.

Police said there was no ongoing threat to the public.

Inspector Butler said the alleged attack was “completely unacceptable”.

“All students have the right to feel safe when they’re at school,” he said.

“It’s really unfortunate that juveniles or any person still thinks it’s right to carry knives in public.”

The school was quickly plunged into lockdown, with teachers and students forced to seek shelter until police gave the all-clear.

Parents were informed of the lockdown in an email sent by the school, and were instructed to stay away from the premises until the lockdown lifted.

“Please note: the incident occurred after the final bell and not all students are on the premises,” the note read, per the ABC.

“Authorities have been notified and are assisting us.

“We ask that you do not come to the college at this time, as this may interfere with safety protocols.”
