Liberal politicians have jumped on a recent viral TikTok trend to slam Victorian Premier Dan Andrews in the cringiest way possible ahead of elections in November.
The trend features the same beat to which people on TikTok are creating their own ‘one thing about me’ rap – on everything from their personal stories, to health issues, to diss tracks. It’s a trend that brings a face grimace at the best of times, although most people joining in seem to be aware that the trend is a little cringe.
Now Liberal politicians have jumped on the trend as a new way to slam Dan Andrews and his recent choice to cut funding to healthcare.
“We’re in the middle of a health crisis but Dan doesn’t care. He cut two billion from health – what a nightmare,” goes the rap, continuing on with a couple more claims before finishing on the line: “it’s time to end his career”.
Victorian Greens and Labor candidates have responded to the ditty, claiming it’s put them off ever trying the trend themselves.
“After this diabolical disaster I will not be rapping on TikTok anytime soon. The VIC Libs ruin everything,” said NSW Labor MP Rose Jackson.
“*Cringecringecringecringecringe* this November is gonna be cooked,” tweeted Greens candidate Aiv Puglielli.
Liberal Democrats candidates Liam Roche kept his response short and to the point with “Cringe.”
Regular people on Twitter also had a lot to say about the rap attempt.
“She gave it a go. Badly advised by some Boomer,” shared one.
“Yikes this is so bad. Who do these people think they are?” said another.
“This is extremely terrible ’90s Australian primary school teacher rap, and yet you can tell she’s so proud of herself by the face she makes at the end,” said a third.
“This is admissible evidence in the prosecution case for white people not being allowed to rap,” said yet another.
All in all, the video is yet further proof that it’s always awkward when politicians and government bodies try to be trendy.
