KEEP your brollies handy — it has been a drizzly day in Melbourne ahead of a wet and chilly week, while temperatures dipped below freezing in the state’s northeast.

GET the brollies out for a wet week ahead with showers and chilly temperatures expected across Melbourne.
Showers are expected to hit southern Victoria between 10am to 2pm today but it won’t be the same record-level rainfall the state experienced over the weekend, the weather bureau said.

“It’s going to be a cloudy day today and with the showers we are expecting about 2mm to fall across the Melbourne area but it won’t be as heavy as the weekend,” senior forecaster Peter Newham said.
The wet weather is likely to hang around for a week along with chilly temperatures hovering around 15C for the city.

“There’s also a frost warning for the northeast of the state and temperatures dropped to -1C at Wangaratta and Rutherglen last night,” he said.
The wintry weather comes after a thick fog settled over the city for most of Monday morning causing traffic and flight delays.
