ANGRY residents of Tecoma in Melbourne's Dandenong Ranges have come out in force today to protest the first mountain McDonald's being built in their town.
More than 650 locals are expected to gather in protest this morning against the fast food giant.
The company won a VCAT dispute to set up shop across the road from the local primary school on the Burwood Highway.
Local mum of two Prue Holloway says the entire town is against the store being built, with a petition signed by every resident.
“We took a petition to VCAT with over 2000 signatures and 1600 letters of protest, VCAT said they didn’t care about our objections,” she said.
“What is worse is the proposed site is across the road from the local primary school, the kids will look out their window and all they will see is Maccas” she said.
Yarra Ranges Council told VCAT that a McDonald's outlet would clash with the area's cultural identity and environment including Sherbrooke Forest.
VCAT approved a 24-hour, seven-day-a -week licence to the restaurant leaving locals bitterly disappointed after the year long fight.
“We don’t want them here so why are they still trying?” Ms Holloway said.
