The Source: Robert Doyle quietly loses another Monash honour

Monash University has quietly stripped former Liberal powerbroker Robert Doyle of another honour in the latest blow for the disgraced ex-lord mayor.

Disgraced ex-lord mayor Robert Doyle has had his Monash fellowship unceremoniously dropped by the university.

Doyle was first awarded his fellowship in 2010 by Monash University, two years into his first term as the Lord Mayor of Melbourne.

But now, all trace of Doyle has disappeared from the distinguished list.

He had collected honours like souvenirs during his high-flying political career, but following a series of damning sexual harassment allegations he became persona-non-grata in the city where he once held all the power.

This is the latest in a series of honours to be stripped from the former Liberal powerbroker.

Robert Doyle’s latest loss comes after his Monash honorary doctorate was quietly scrubbed last year.
Robert Doyle’s latest loss comes after his Monash honorary doctorate was quietly scrubbed last year.

In March 2023 he lost his Order of Australia honour, and in January 2024 it was revealed Monash had revoked his Honorary Doctorate — which was originally given for his “distinguished career in public life”.

Still, Doyle was included in Monash’s list of luminaries as recently as December last year, but he was quietly scrubbed from the website at some time since then.

After a few nudges, Monash University confirmed that the University Council had determined to revoke the fellowship.

The Source asked the university about the reasoning behind the decision, but was told there would be no statement provided.

Doyle was approached for comment.
