UPDATE 1.13pm: SEARCH and rescue squad officers have found the body of a man who died in a car smash in the state's north-east last night.
Police had been trying to find the man since last night when a wrecked car was found on a bridge near Violet Town.
They believe a 24-year-old man was driving the car, which appeared to have rolled then stopped over the Honeysuckle Creek at about 9pm.
Officers from the dogs squad and a police helicopter searched last night without success around the crash scene, on the Shepparton-Violet Town Rd.
The 24-year-old man was from Violet Town.
Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
The death brings this year's road toll to 258, compared to 226 at the same time last year.
