Wintry weather did not dampen the party at Flemington for the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
International raider Magic Wand backed up from a tenth placing in Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup to take out the feature race yesterday, the $2 million Mackinnon Stakes, from Melody Belle and grand campaigner Hartnell, who was competing in his last race before retirement.
While the weather was far from Spring-like the Birdcage enclosure was once again the hottest ticket at the track.
Bogged car in the #Flemington public car park this morning. What an unfortunate way for these people to start Stakes Day, the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. ð¤¦ââï¸ pic.twitter.com/osdHqdisdw

Surprisingly few of the Birdcage marquee guests dressed for the conditions with flimsy frocks, strapless numbers and dainty dresses the top pick for many.
StakesDay is known as Family Day and Kate Waterhouse, the daughter of leading trainer Gai Waterhouse, made the most of the afternoon at the races with her daughters Sophia and Grace.
Ruby Brownless and her boyfriend, Josh Wallis, were among friends at the No1 Oliver Street marquee along with Brooke and Jackson Warne.
Sam and Snezana Wood stepped out socially for the first time since the birth of their third child, Charlie, in July.
“We have the breast pump in our friend’s bag. We are here for a good time not a long time,” Sam said.
“We don’t travel light. We don’t even go to the coffee shop without about six bags of crap.”
Other guests included Dyson Heppell, Jennifer Keyte, Rachel Griffiths, Abbey Holmes, Tim Robards, Stephen Quartermain, Peter Helliar, Barry DuBois, Lindy Klim, and Rebecca Harding and Andy Lee.
