Judy Moran had agreement with gunman who shot Des Moran, court hears

THE murder case against gangland widow Judy Moran was a "strong" and "overwhelming" one, a jury has been told today.

In his closing address at Mrs Moran’s murder trial, prosecutor Mark Rochford, SC, said the Crown case was that she and gunman Geoff Armour “made an agreement” and planned the deliberate killing of Des “Tuppence” Moran at his favourite café in Union Rd, Ascot Vale, on June 15, 2009.

“The Crown says it is a joint criminal enterprise…(and) she is part of the agreement and she acts in accordance with it and plays a part in bringing it about,” Mr Rochford said.

“Not the actual physical shooting…but the driving to, the driving from (and) getting rid of the equipment – the murder gun, et cetera – by hiding it in the safe (at her home).”

In relation to prosecution witness Michael Farrugia, who was the second man present when Mr Moran was gunned down, Mr Rochford said he was a reliable and truthful witness supported by other evidence.

Mr Rochford questioned how Mrs Moran, who he said shared a dislike of Des with Armour and his de facto Suzanne Kane, knew where to head after being told her brother-in-law was murdered.

“If there’s a whiteboard in your room, go in and write that one down,” Mr Rochford told the jury members.

He also accused Mrs Moran of embarking in “extraordinary behaviour” by rushing to the scene.

“No one’s going to suspect Judy Moran because here she is at the scene crying, upset – just like it’s happened (to her family) again and again,” Mr Rochford said.

“That’s what that’s all about.”

The trial, before Justice Lex Lasry, continues.
