Deli shopkeeper dived on wife as Des 'Tuppence' Moran was shot dead

A SHOPKEEPER working in the deli when Des Moran was killed threw himself on top of his wife as the shooting played out, court hears.

A SHOPKEEPER working inside the delicatessen the day Des "Tuppence" Moran was gunned down there has told the Supreme Court that he threw himself on top his wife as the killing played out.

Salvatore Agresta today told Judy Moran's murder trial that he was at the rear of the Ascot Pasta and Deli in Union Rd when he heard the shots on the morning of June 15, 2009.

Mr Moran had just paid Mr Agresta's wife for his lunch and was leaving the store.

"I was at the back of the shop," Mr Agresta said.

"I was looking for carry bags and I heard a couple of bangs. (I) just turned around and I saw my wife on the floor and I just dived on top of my wife, basically ... Eventually I got up and I just noticed a person lying in the middle of the doorway."

Prosecutor Mark Rochford, SC, asked: "Was it obvious that Mr Moran had been shot because he was bleeding on the floor?"

Mr Agresta replied: "Yes."

The shopkeeper said he did not see who shot Mr Moran.

The trial continues.
