Dan returns from New Zealand family holiday with new beard

Former premier Daniel Andrews has touched down in Melbourne, shortly after agreeing to surrender his phone records relating to a bike crash more than 10 years ago.

Sporting some holiday stubble, Daniel Andrews touched down in Melbourne a day after he sensationally backflipped and agreed to surrender phone records relating to a Blairgowrie near-fatal car crash.

The former premier, who had been holidaying in New Zealand with his family, donned a padded jacket, different to his typical North Face attire as he strolled through Melbourne Airport with wife Cath and one of his sons.

Mr Andrews carried his luggage in a turquoise suitcase with a reusable Target bag on top that appeared to have some kind of parcel wrapped in brown paper.

His return comes less than 24 hours after Mr Andrews’ lawyers backed down and agreed to hand over his mobile records from the day of a 2013 crash with a teenage cyclist.

Lawyers for Ryan Meuleman, who was 15 when he was struck by the Andrews’ family SUV in Blairgowrie, are seeking to establish who Mr Andrews spoke to — and when — amid concerns of interference in the aftermath of the collision.

Mr Meuleman is suing law firm Slater & Gordon, alleging it failed to act in his best interest when negotiating an $80,000 compensation settlement with the Transport Accident Commission.

The Andrews were expected to fight a subpoena for phone records related to the collision but

just hours before the scheduled 10.30am hearing on Monday his lawyers consented to the release after the scope of the subpoena was narrowed.

Costs for preparing for Monday’s abandoned hearing were also awarded against the Andrews camp.
